Clearing out the house

We never tire of seeing a skip in the garden – it usually means the project has started

After 3 days of hard graft, a skip and a visit from a specialist house clearance team, the buy to sell project that Sam Ferrington and I have started in Austhorpe, East Leeds is coming along nicely.

Although we mitigate risk on any buy to sell project by involving trusted surveyors and builders before we buy, it’s always nice to complete a strip out without revealing anything nasty or surprising. With this one we pretty much found what we expected which means that we can push on as planned. The next jobs will be to clear the garden and then finalise our drawings and quotations.

In the end, we decided to build a single story extension to the rear to create a lovely kitchen diner which will have bi-fold doors that open out onto the patio and garden. We’ll also add a downstairs WC and a spacious utility room. At the front of the house we’ll retain the fireplace and build a cosy lounge. Upstairs we’ll reinstate the three bedrooms and refurbish the bathroom to a high standard. Outside, we’ll get rid of the jungle and create a lovely garden at the front and at the back. This will be a fantastic family home once we are done.
